Birds in Portugal 2

Flamingos in the Tagus estuary. In August the days are hot, the sun burns. Not the best time for birding. Many fields were dry and the grass colored brown, but they held a surprising amount of species. The salt lakes too and that is where we saw most flamingos. I don't find the particularly handsome. nor elegant. But in big numbers they are impressive.

A typical Portuguese scenery

Many snails huddled together and tried to find some shade. They need to stay out of the sun and use the big thistles like parasols
